IMWA2013 - Reliable Mine Water Technology
August 5 - 9, 2013
IMWA 2013, the annual conference of the International Mine Water Association will take place at the Colorado School of Mines Green Center on August 6-9, 2013.

The Conference will open with a broad overview session and keynote presentations on Tuesday morning, followed by technical sessions on Tuesday afternoon. A mid-conference mine water tour to the Leadville mining district will take place on Wednesday, followed by technical sessions on Thursday and Friday, with the closing on Friday afternoon. Professional development workshops and short courses will be conducted preceding the Conference on Sunday and Monday (August 4 and 5), and the post-conference "Mines, Mountains, and Springs" tour of the Rocky Mountains is available on Saturday through the following Tuesday (August 10 - 14).

Papers and Posters
Over 200 technical papers and case studies have been accepted for presentation in the oral and poster sessions at IMWA 2013. The titles, authors and abstracts of the oral papers can be viewed by topic area here, and the poster information can be viewed here. The papers and posters will be compiled into conference proceedings that will be published and available to delegates at the conference.
Pre-Conference Workshops and Short Courses
Eight pre-conference workshops are available on Sunday August 4 and Monday August 5 on the topics of pit lake modeling, microbial ecology, FEFLOW modeling, solution mining geochemistry, passive water treatment, general water treatment, and design and construction of economic dewatering wells. The one-day mid-conference tour will visit the famous Leadville Mining District and will inspect three sites: the operating Freeport-McMoRan Climax Molybdenum Mine and its alpine water management system; the Leadville National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum; and the Leadville Mine District Superfund Cleanup, including drainage tunnels, surface reclamation, and water treatment. The Post-Conference "Mines, Mountains, and Springs" Tour will feature a four-day tour through the spectacular Rocky Mountains, visiting a major historic metal mine, jeep-touring the high Rockies, visiting a major operating gold mine, and relaxing in three different hot springs. The tour will provide first-hand experience of state-of-the-art mine water management practices and environmental protection. Learn more...

IMWA 2013 Conference will be held at the Green Conference Center on the campus of Colorado School of Mines in Golden (near Denver), Colorado USA. Golden is a delightful small university city located at 5,700 feet (1,740 meters) elevation, so weather in August is dry and warm to hot (80°F/25°C) during the day, and cool (55°F/17°C) in the evenings.
